Best time to visit Kenya

There's no single best month — only the best month for you. Our month-by-month guides break down the weather, wildlife, the Great Migration, crowds and costs, so you can travel at exactly the right time.

The Short Version

Kenya's safari seasons

Kenya is a year-round safari destination, but the experience shifts with the seasons. Here's the quick orientation before you dive into a specific month.

Dry Season / Peak
Jun–Oct

Best game viewing, the Great Migration in the Mara, and peak crowds and prices. July–September is the busiest.

Short Rains
Nov–Dec

Brief afternoon showers, green landscapes, fewer crowds, newborn animals and great birding. Often excellent value.

Dry & Green
Jan–Feb

A short dry spell — warm, clear, big cats active and good calving. A quieter sweet spot.

Long Rains / Low
Mar–May

The wettest months, lush and dramatic, fewest visitors and lowest prices. Some camps close in April–May.
